Productivity Guilt

Happy Sunday everyone !

Can we actually talk about how productivity guilt is a real thing and the effect that it has on everyday life. I guess this has really only hit me since being signed off work because of my health, which is kind of hard to believe for some people.

Yeah, believe it or not I feel guilty most of the time for doing something for myself like; getting my nails done or just having plans in general. You’re definitely not alone if you feel like this too. In reality everyone should enjoy time for themselves, take that as a little self care.

I think where I personally “don’t have anything to do in my life” or that’s what a few people think shall I mention. It’s not that simple when you have a medical condition like mine, that sometimes does take over my life and is so draining. Okay, well I guess I have always been the type of person to feel bad over anything I do pretty much. Saying no, or turning down plans because of anxiety or simply because you don’t really feel like going. (and it’s okay to do that!) When it comes to feeling bad or guilty whether that’s because you’re taking the time for yourself and you’ve left the kids back, or like me because I’m actually choosing to think a little more about myself, which I haven’t done in ages btw. It’s so difficult and I don’t know about anyone else, but it’s mainly people, that make us feel utter guilt about doing things for ourselves. For example, I’ve lost myself completely over the past 2 years and I’m on a mission to get back to feeling like myself again! Most of the time, if I do want to take time away, I’ll 100% feel bad about it, maybe a little superstitious if you ask me. Like, if I want to jump on here and create a blog, I can be made to feel upset, even if it’s just me creating this scenario in my head, which has happened before.

The impact on mental health it has - You do “nothing” and you’re made to feel guilty about it, or You’re “busy or made plans” for yourself and yet you’re still being made to feel bad. It definitely effects my anxiety and mental health, knowing that sometimes you’ve got to make yourself happy because the world isn’t going to do that for you!

Needless to say, take the time for yourself and don’t let anyone make you feel upset about taking a little time for self care. You deserve it! :)
